Proverbs 17:5 says, “Whoever mocks the poor shows contempt for their Maker; whoever gloats over disaster will not go unpunished.”
Consider these thoughts…
Once, my husband was connecting with a missionary who shared stories upon stories about hardship and persecution. The fruit of this missionary spoke for itself, for he had brought thousands of people to Christ. After a few hours, my husband asked, “Sir, what motivates you to go through all this suffering to save souls you barely even know?”
It didn’t even take a second for this missionary to respond by saying, “Because I know it comforts God’s heart that I care about what He cares about.”
Neither my husband and I never took a moment to even consider how God must have felt about those thousands that could have been destined for hell. What a privilege it was to witness a man who lived to please the Father!
Apply the truth! The following are optional things to do…
Ask the Lord what’s on His heart today.
What is something you see in your everyday life that you feel the Lord wants you to cultivate more empathy for?
