No one wants to be disappointed. In fact, many people custom tailor their lifestyles, perspectives, and expectations for the purpose of avoiding disappointment.
Listen to today’s Truth…
We must be driven by a God-centered hope.
Read the following Scripture…
Proverbs 13:12 says, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.”
Consider these thoughts…
I’ve often read this proverb and thought to myself, “But, what if God is the one that defers my hope? What if my longings in God never get fulfilled?”
I think these are genuine fears that many Christians have. Many are afraid to hope in God. Usually, that fear is stirred up from the time a prayer was not answered or an expectation for a breakthrough that wasn’t met.
If a longing fulfilled is a tree of life, then we must be willing to allow the seeds of hope to grow! If our hope rests upon our timing and our standards, then we may be disappointed. However, if our hope rests upon the goodness and faithfulness of God, then all that we hope for is in a God-ordained process to fulfillment. And once fulfilled, it breathes life into us.
Apply the truth! The following are optional things to do…
-
Survey the areas in your life that fall under the spell of hopelessness. Shift your thoughts to revive hope into those areas.
-
What are some things in your life that you are impatient to see breakthrough in? Surrender those things before the Lord today!
Pray…
-
For an increase of hope in your heart.
-
For a better understanding of God’s goodness.
