Wisdom Matters (Day 12)

It is easy to think we are spiritually growing because we hear sermons and read the Word. Hearing and reading does not ensure that our hearts are headed in the right direction. It is when we hold onto what we hear and apply what we read!

Listen to today’s Truth…

We need to proactively hold onto God’s teachings.

Read the following Scripture…

Proverbs 7:1-2 says, “My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you. Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.”

Consider these thoughts…

It’s easy to hold onto bitterness. It is easy to remember how someone has wronged you. It’s even easy to focus on imperfections and disappointments.
However, do our minds so easily hold onto godly advice?
Every word of the Lord that you receive, whether it’s during your daily devotionals or during a worship service, is word that is meant to bless you, protect you, and guide you! It can do so much more than remain lodged as a distant memory!
If you find yourself passively waiting for a new word from God, it’s a great time to actively remember the past words of God and apply them today as well.

Apply the truth! The following are optional things to do…

  • Go through past bible study notes or sermon notes! As you re-read them, highlight the advice that you would love to keep treasuring today.
  • What are the last three things the Lord had told you, whether through a Bible reading or a worship session? Take a moment to remember them and allow them to have an affect on your life.

  • For a mind that holds onto spiritual wisdom.
  • For a teachable heart.
  • For a life that exudes the goodness of God.
